Summary of "Swear Jar"

In the video advertisement for the beer Bud Light the corporation Anheuser-Busch uses humor as a means of selling its product. The setting is modeled after the typical office workplace and has a diverse group of people. By modeling the commercial this way it creates a link with the viewers that work at an office. A man asks a woman working in a cubicle “what’s that?” she replies “that’s a swear jar, every time someone swears you put a quarter in it” and then money’s purpose is revealed as to buy Bud Light for the office. The man relies in a stoic yet comedic manner “F***ing awesome” and places a quarter in the jar.

Throughout the commercial the office workers are converging with each other using random terms of profanity. The viewers of the commercial realize that everyone is behaving in such a manner with the sole purpose of raising enough money to buy Bud Light beer. However, this in not directly revealed but is rather implied. That is where the humor is. When the viewer figures out the workers are just cursing so that they will be able to buy beer they cannot help but laugh. Of course, all of the profanity is censored but the viewer can still conclude what the terms are and this adds to the humor. The advertisement has a subliminal message that drinking this particular beer is fun and does so through the use of humor.

I thought this ad was very funny. It is very effective in reaching what I believe is its target audience, young men. Others may be turned off by its crudeness.

It's a very clever ad. Unlike other ads that may come up on TV (generally boring), this one, due to its witty humor catches peoples attention and makes them laugh, leaving its viewers with upbeat memories of the product.

Office always is a boring place. In this ad, it try to relate office with humor. All office curse and try to rise the money together for budlight. It is a very funny ad.

This commercial was entertaining. Although, there was no music in the background, the humor of the ad made it more attractive to watch.

When people think of offices and cubicles they usually think boring, but this ad succeeds in showing that it's product is something that makes the work place fun. The swear jar concept was very funny and it obvious how this reaches out to their target audience. It's basically saying "Drink our beer, it'll make your life funner".

I thought this commercial ad was very funny. Its a smart way for bud light to convey to others that they should drink their beer.

I agree that this is a very funny ad. I think it does a great job in capturing its targeted audience by using the swear jar to raise money for beer. It shows how much the people in the office would do to buy a bottle. I, however, was a little turned off by the use of profanity but the one woman that sometimes refused to join in showed that profanity still isn't appropriate.

This ad for Bud Light was very funny. It reminded me of the "What would you do for a klondike bar" commercials, except with a modern twist. It also makes you think about the changes in commercial advertising from only a few short years ago to now. Ten years ago, it would probably be almost impossible to get a commercial with such vulgar languages approved for air. The language is "bleeped" out, but we all know what they are saying.

I thought this commercial was very funny. It showed how everyone wanted beer light and how everyone cursed to get it. Even though the curses were taken out, you can still know what curses they used, which made it even funnier. This commercial caught my attention.

This ad uses humor to grab the viewers attention. They show how much people want Bud Light. Because normally people try not to curse when there is a curse jar. However, in this ad the people curse more because they want to give more money to get more Bud Light.
